Bhikari Bal Samman

Bhajan Samrat Late Sri Bhikari Charan Bal (Kendrapara, May 25, 1929- November 2, 2010) was the most loved devotional singer of Odisha. He devoted his entire life in singing many beautiful Bhajans dedicated to Lord Jagannath and Srikshetra. Jaga Kalia Re, Kotha Bhoga Khia, Mana Para Re, Kalia Saante Ho…… and many are memorable gifts from his golden voice.

As a tribute to the holy soul of Bhajan Samrat Late Sri Bhikari Charan Bal, the program named ‘Bhikari Bal Sanman’ have been organized every year to pay homage to one of the greatest devotional singer of Odisha, Bhajan Samrat late Sri Bhikari Charan Bal. He is known in every corner of Odisha for his high level of devotion for lord Jagannath which emanates through his melodious Bhajans. Audiences remain calm while Bhajan Samrat starts singing on the Bhajan Mandap. In his whole life, Bhajan Samrat has sung more than one thousand spiritual songs that became very much popular in Odisha and India as well. In order to commemorate the death anniversary of the great soul, a Bhajan Sandhya named as ‘Jaga kalia re….’ was organized on 2nd November 2016 at Jaydev Bhavan, Bhubaneswar. Mny artists of Odisha paid their homage to the holy soul by singing devotional songs. On this occasion, Sj. Gaurahari Dalai, the lyricist of many Odiya devotional songs was felicitated by the chief guest, Honourable Gajapati Maharaja of Odisha Sri Sri Dibyasingha Dev. The pareticipants of the state level Bhikari Bal Bhajan Pratiyogita were also felicitated in this occasion. More than 300 viewers attended and enjoyed the program.
