Our Culture

Kalinga, the ancient Odisha has a distinct identity for its prosperous culture and rich heritage. The cultural heritage of Odisha is a harmonious blending of art, religion and philosophy interwoven around Lord Purusottam Jagannath. As described by many historians, the values and traditions of the state bear a combination of religious and scientific basis which are more logical in the current context. In history, the state was known for its heroic deeds, maritime trades and over-sea expansion of its people.

The state has splendid historical monuments depicting heroic deeds and cultural upheavals. In the other hand, Odisha is said to be the hub of religious places and pilgrimage in the country. Many people across the globe feel familiar to visit Odisha due to its cultural and religious diversity. The long coast line, abundant forest and natural resources, numerous beautifully carved temples, historical monuments, purely traditional art and craft, classical Odishi dance and the car festival of lord Jagannath are the proud testimonies of the state. There are a lot of heritage sites of which many are now in unprotected condition and in ruining stage. The history of which is also unknown to many. The common people are unaware of the importance of many of the monuments due to high level of cultural diversity within the state. These heritage sites are the true reflections of the socio cultural behavior of Kalinga Empire. Protection of culture and heritage with peoples’ participation has become more important than only Government initiatives.
